MCC is a set of guidelines issued by the ECI
It helps in conducting free and fair elections
Permission for weddings is a must
With the Lok Sabha elections 2024 all set to take place from April 19 to June 1 in seven phases all across the country, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in place.
As per the MCC. such couples who are getting married must intimate the Tahsildar office and get the requisite permission.
Not just marriages, even any public event like fairs and processions have to be brought to the notice of the office concerned.
Interestingly, politicians have been forbidden from taking part in such activities. And such a move has sent several people in the rural side into a state of anxiety.
Restriction on usage of mic
The MCC also bars the usage of mic post 10 pm. Before the onset of MCC, mics could be used from 6 am. Now, if there is a violation, strict action would be taken against them.
What is MCC?
The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is a set of guidelines and rules established by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure free and fair elections.
It lays down the standards of behavior and conduct for political parties, candidates, and government officials during the electoral process. The MCC aims to maintain a level playing field and prevent the misuse of governmental resources for electoral gains. Key provisions include restrictions on the use of government machinery, prohibition of speeches or actions that may create communal or religious tensions, and guidelines for election campaigning, advertising, and polling. The MCC typically comes into effect as soon as elections are announced and remains in force until the conclusion of the electoral process.
