Adhir canvasses for BJP for LS Polls 2024

Issue comes as an embarrassment for I.N.D.I Alliance

Congress, TMC are fighting separately in WB

Former TMC MP Sushmita Dev has stirred controversy by sharing a purported video of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, allegedly suggesting that voting for BJP is preferable to supporting TMC in West Bengal. In the undated video, Chowdhury, the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, is heard saying in Bengali, “Why vote for TMC …better to vote for BJP.”

While the authenticity and context of the video remain unverified, the rift between TMC and Chowdhury is not new in Bengal. Earlier this week, Chowdhury accused TMC of weakening the opposition bloc INDIA in the state, asserting BJP’s rising influence.

The strained relationship between TMC and Congress dates back to failed seat-sharing negotiations for the Lok Sabha elections, where TMC squarely blamed Chowdhury for the breakdown in talks. Despite both parties being part of the opposition INDIA bloc nationally, they are contesting the elections separately in West Bengal.

Sushmita Dev’s disclosure has reignited tensions within the opposition camp, raising questions about unity ahead of the crucial polls. However, Chowdhury’s alleged remarks may further complicate matters, potentially impacting voter sentiments in the fiercely contested electoral landscape of West Bengal.
