On July 30, just an hour after their last phone conversation, tragedy struck. The hills of Chooralmala slid, engulfing the village. Horrified by the devastation, Ansil frantically tried to contact Fida, but his calls went unanswered. When he visited her home, he was met with the heart-wrenching sight of the house reduced to debris.
As a nurse at the Meppadi Health Centre, Ansil was assigned the grim task of bathing the bodies recovered from the landslide. Among them was Fida’s father. Overwhelmed by grief, Ansil feared the worst for Fida, assuming she too had perished in the disaster.
However, days later, a glimmer of hope emerged. Fida, miraculously alive, was found at a rehabilitation centre. Their reunion was bittersweet, marked by loss but also by the enduring bond of love. Now, Ansil has taken on the responsibility of caring for Fida’s mother, a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other.
This is a love story that has withstood the test of nature’s fury, shining brightly amid the ruins of Wayanad.
