According to Infrastructure Development Minister M.B. Patil, the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) will witness its inaugural phase become operational by December 2025, covering a distance of 7.4 km from Chikkabanavara to Yeshwantpur. As of now, approximately 20% of the permanent work for the project has been completed.

Providing an update on the progress, Minister Patil highlighted that 98.5% of the required land (120.44 acres) for Corridor-2 (Chikkabanavara to Benniganahalli) has been acquired, totaling 119.18 acres.

The comprehensive project, valued at ₹15,677 crore and spanning 148.17 km, is targeted for completion by December 2027. Patil emphasized the need for assistance from the Railway Ministry to secure encroachment-free land as per the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) and to ensure timely approval of project designs.

Additionally, Patil urged the Railways to approve the alignment and handover of land for Corridor-1 (KSR Bengaluru to Devanahalli) and Corridor-3 (Kengeri to Whitefield) by June 2024, to uphold the established timelines.

Furthermore, he disclosed plans by K-RIDE to integrate the BSRP with the Peripheral Railway Network in the future, with potential extensions to satellite towns, expressing intentions to engage in discussions with the Railways to facilitate this vision.
