Reports suggest that he would continue as an MP, but has not shown any interest in being a minister. Currently, he is a minister of state with no portfolio announced. However, he has assuaged feelings of the electorate saying he would represent them in the Parliament and publicise their problems, but certainly not as a minister as he had never hankered after it.
In the just concluded LS elections, Gopi emerged victorious as he got a total of 4,12,338 votes. He won with a margin of 74,686 votes. His opponent was ADV VS Sunilkumar of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
At the same time, it should also be noted that this is BJP’s debut in Kerala, which is a stronghold of the left.
PM Modi and others take oath
After staking claim to form the government, PM Modi, supported by his NDA allies like TDP and JD(U), among others, took oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. In all, 72 took oath, including bigwigs like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, HD Kumaraswamy.
