Celebrating 100 years, MTR prepares 123-foot long dosa

It was made on a hot plate using induction technology

It used 50 kgs of batter to achieve the impossible!

A few days ago, we told you about how Bengaluru is the dosa capital of the world. On the Swiggy platform, as many as 290 lakh people had ordered dosas.

Now, close on the heels, Bengaluru walks into the record books, with another feather in its cap! As many as 75 chefs, under the banner MTR cuisine centre of excellence, prepared a dosa that is 123 feet long!

Initially, the aim was to create a 100-foot-long dosa, but ultimately, it hit the 123 foot mark! Dosa has long been a scrumptious south Indian dish, offering a lot of nutrition.

Now, let’s talk to you about the long tawa or hot plate to create this dosa. The technology used is induction so that the entire atmosphere is free of fire.

Incidentally, it was 5 months ago that MTR members got such an idea, that is to create a long-enough dosa in order to enter the record books. Since then, they kept on planning.

And after meticulous planning, the team zeroed in on three things that were essential.

They were: A tawa with the apt temperature, a good batter, and a good team. And trust us, all the three things were taken care of, with 16 technicians in attendance.

Initially, the team thought of using red rice batter, MTR dosa batter and lastly, idli batter. And finally, they decided to go with the red batter. They held around 150 trials.

Again, at this point, we have to tell you that an additional 110 trials were conducted in order to assess the right temperature to get the right dosa texture.

In all, the team has used 50kgs of batter, refined sunflower oil, and to control the temperature of the tava, onions were used. The breadth is 2 feet.

Now, if you are wondering, why this 123-foot long dosa, well, MTR is celebrating 100 years of its phenomenal journey and what better way to walk into the annals of history!
