After having retired from professional cricket, legendary Srilankan spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan is exploring the field of entrepreneurship. He has established a cold drink manufacturing unit in Sri Lanka. In order to scale up the project Muralitharan visited Karnataka.

Minister of Infrastructure Development of Karnataka M.B Patil welcomed Muralitharan’s decision. M.B Patil and Mutthiah Muralitharan met on 18th June in relation to this. The meeting took place in Bengaluru. “A Rs. 1,000 crore manufacturing facility is currently under development in Chamarajanagar district, with plans to escalate investment to Rs. 1,400 crore. He remains committed to continuing operations in Dharwad. Today's meeting focused on coordination, with department officials actively facilitating necessary support. Present were Shri. Selvakumar, Principal Secretary of Industries, and Commissioner Smt. Gunjan Krishna,” M.B Patil stated on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

He had initially planned on investing Rs 250 crore. This has however subsequently expanded. The unit will be set up in the KIADB (Karnataka Industrial Development Area Board) Badanaguppe-Kellamballi-Kallahalli Industrial Area. 46 acres of land has been granted for the setting up of the unit. There was a wide support for this development from netizens although concerns pertaining to environment protection were raised.
