Former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath exercised his franchise today at a polling booth in Mysuru during the ongoing Lok Sabha Polls. Displaying his inked finger proudly, Srinath emphasized the importance of voting, stating, “It is our right to come and vote. We want the people to come out and vote…I think people should come out. Voting is important…”

Today, Karnataka is voting for 14 seats in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, with the remaining 14 seats scheduled for May 7. Karnataka holds significant weight in the Parliament with its 28 seats. The constituencies polling today include Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur, and Kolar.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP clinched 25 out of 28 seats in Karnataka. This time, the BJP is contesting 25 seats, while its state ally JDS is vying for the remaining 3 seats, all part of the second phase – Hassan, Mandya, and Kolar.

Voting commenced at 7 am and will conclude at 6 pm today. The first phase of voting, conducted on April 19 across 21 states and UTs, recorded a voter turnout of over 62 per cent. The third phase is scheduled for May 7.
