Nadella shared a memorable encounter from January 2023 with a farmer who used GPT-3.5 in his native language to navigate government farm subsidies. This example illustrated the profound impact AI can have on everyday lives. The farmer’s interaction with a bot that translated and guided him through accessing a government program showcased the practical applications of Microsoft’s AI technologies.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Nadella emphasized this story, noting that the farmer initially hesitated but ultimately relied on the bot to complete the process. This success was made possible by GPT’s extensive training on Indian government documents and advanced speech recognition software.

During the Build 2024 event, Microsoft announced two major AI innovations. Developers can now access OpenAI’s most advanced model, GPT-40, which promises to revolutionize AI capabilities. Additionally, Microsoft introduced Phi-3-Vision, a Small Language Model (SLM) designed to read and understand images. Both tools are available on Microsoft’s Azure AI Studio, enabling developers to explore new frontiers in AI.

Microsoft also unveiled new virtual machines optimized for AI workloads, featuring AMD’s cutting-edge MI300X AI accelerator chip. This integration makes Azure ND MI300X v5 virtual machines exceptionally powerful for handling complex AI tasks, marking a significant advancement in AI infrastructure.
