    Driverless trains are designed to operate at a frequency of 90 seconds

The Bangalore Metro Rail Transport Corporation (BMRCL) is preparing to initiate testing of its driverless train on a designated track, with plans for imminent deployment. Assembling of this train, designated for the yellow line, has been completed under the supervision of Chinese engineers.

BMRCL has announced the commencement of 37 comprehensive tests over the next four months. “Given the novelty of this rolling stock, extensive testing is necessary. Assembly of the coaches has been completed, followed by static and electrical circuit testing on the test track. Subsequently, mainline testing will commence, encompassing a diverse range of approximately 37 tests spanning four months, including system integration with signaling, telecommunications, power supply, and more,” stated BMRCL.

Additionally, BMRCL anticipates the arrival of two more trains in Bengaluru by May, followed by a monthly delivery of two trains starting in June. These driverless trains are designed to operate at a frequency of 90 seconds, with each coach measuring 21 meters in length.

Scheduled for deployment on the Yellow Line, the introduction of this driverless train is projected for either late this year or early next year. In 2019, CRCC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd secured the contract to supply 216 coaches to BMRCL along with this prototype train. The assembly of the train took place at Electronics City under the supervision of a team of Chinese engineers.

This prototype train is slated to undergo trial runs on the yellow line, connecting RV Road with Bommasandra via Silk Board. Upon completion of these trial runs, a report will be submitted to the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS).
