Tragedy struck at Sri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district, as a massive crowd led to a stampede during Ekadashi celebrations, killing nine devotees and injuring many.
A tragic stampede at Sri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh claimed the lives of nine devotees and left several others seriously injured on Saturday.
The incident took place during the Ekadashi celebrations of the holy Karthika Masam, when thousands of devotees had gathered to offer prayers. Due to the overcrowding and lack of proper crowd management, panic broke out, resulting in the deadly stampede.

According to officials, devotees had been visiting the temple since early morning, and as the crowd swelled, it became difficult for authorities to control the situation. Many people were trampled in the chaos, while several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals. The death toll may rise, officials said.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the incident and instructed officials to intensify rescue and relief operations immediately. He also assured that all necessary support would be extended to the victims and their families. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan was briefed on the situation and urged authorities to ensure better safety measures at temples during festive seasons.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns about crowd control and safety management at major religious sites in Andhra Pradesh. Similar incidents have been reported earlier, including at the Tirupati Tirumala Temple, highlighting the urgent need for stricter administrative planning.
In a compassionate move, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede. The government has also promised to cover medical expenses for the injured devotees.
