Govt confirms Ajit Pawar’s plane crash in Baramati was due to dense fog and poor visibility; probe assures transparency and accountability
The Central government has confirmed that poor visibility due to dense fog was the primary cause of the plane crash involving Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that preliminary investigations point to low visibility as the reason behind the accident.
Naidu emphasized that the inquiry will be conducted in a transparent and responsible manner. According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 8:48 am in Baramati, where weather conditions were unfavourable. Visibility at the time was severely reduced, making landing difficult.
Before attempting to land, Air Traffic Control (ATC) asked the pilot whether the runway was visible. The pilot initially responded that it was not. The aircraft then circled in the sky before returning for another attempt. On the second approach, the pilot confirmed that the runway was visible, following which ATC granted clearance to land. The crash occurred shortly afterward.

Officials and local residents reported that Baramati was covered in dense fog throughout the morning, with visibility levels dropping significantly. The minister reiterated that the accident was directly linked to these conditions.
