A massive fire and explosion at a firecracker godown in Vetlapalem village of Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district triggered panic, killing over seven workers and injuring several others.
A tragic fire and explosion at a firecracker warehouse in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district has claimed the lives of more than seven workers and left several others injured. The incident occurred at the ‘Surya Sri’ firecracker godown located in Vetlapalem village under Samarlakota mandal.
According to preliminary reports, a sudden fire broke out inside the warehouse, triggering a massive explosion. The intensity of the blast was so severe that bodies were reportedly thrown into nearby agricultural fields, leaving the local community in deep shock. The powerful explosion caused extensive damage to the warehouse structure and surrounding areas.

At the time of the accident, nearly 30 to 35 workers were present inside the godown, engaged in routine work. Rescue teams and local authorities rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. At least eight injured workers were shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Their condition is said to be critical in some cases.
Officials said that firefighting teams worked for several hours to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and farmlands. Local police cordoned off the area and began evacuation as a precautionary measure. A large crowd gathered at the accident site, creating tense moments during rescue operations.
The exact cause of the explosion is not yet known. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine whether safety norms were violated or if any technical malfunction led to the incident. Forensic teams are expected to inspect the site to establish the sequence of events.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock over the tragedy and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He directed district officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and ordered a thorough probe into the incident.
