A Kashmiri man, Ahmed Sheikh, was detained in Ayodhya for attempting namaz inside the Ram temple; police are probing his motives amid tight security

Ayodhya police have detained a Kashmiri man for allegedly attempting to offer namaz inside the Ram temple complex, a highsecurity zone that has been under heightened surveillance ahead of upcoming festivities.

Officials identified the man as Ahmed Sheikh, 55, a resident of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir. According to sources, Sheikh entered the temple premises on Friday and, after completing his visit, sat near the Sita Rasoi area where he began preparing to offer namaz. Security personnel quickly intervened, stopping the act and taking him into custody.

Witnesses reported that Sheikh raised slogans when his actions were interrupted. He was handed over to local police for questioning. Investigating agencies, including intelligence officials, are now probing his motives, travel history, and whether others were involved in the incident.

During preliminary checks, police found items such as cashews and raisins in his possession. Sheikh reportedly told investigators that he was en route to Ajmer, though authorities are verifying his claims.

Senior police officers have since reviewed security arrangements at the Ram temple complex, which has been a focal point of national attention. The district administration and the Ram Temple Trust have declined to comment on the matter.

The incident comes at a sensitive time, as Ayodhya prepares for Makar Sankranti celebrations next week. Large crowds are expected to gather, and security has already been tightened across the town. The episode also precedes the second anniversary of the Ram temple on January 22, an event anticipated to draw thousands of devotees.

Authorities emphasized that investigations are ongoing and that security protocols around the temple will be further strengthened to prevent any recurrence.
