  • FASTag services will not be suspended immediately for incomplete KYV
  • Only one front photograph is now required for verification
  • KYV process is linked with Vahan for automatic RC data retrieval

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has simplified the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for FASTag users, ensuring uninterrupted service and easier verification through the national vehicle database.

FASTag users can now breathe easier. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a major revision to the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process, making it simpler, more transparent, and customer-friendly. The update ensures that motorists will no longer face sudden deactivation of FASTag services due to incomplete verification.

The new guidelines, issued by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), aim to remove unnecessary steps and make verification seamless. Under the revised process, FASTag accounts will remain active even if KYV is pending, giving users enough time to complete verification without service disruption.

One of the biggest changes is the removal of multiple photo upload requirements. Users of cars, jeeps, and vans now only need to submit a single front photograph showing both the FASTag and the vehicle’s registration number plate. This eliminates the need for side-view imagesThe process has also been integrated with Vahan, India’s national vehicle database. When users input details such as vehicle number, chassis number, or mobile number, the system automatically retrieves the Registration Certificate (RC) details. If multiple vehicles are linked to one mobile number, users can easily choose the specific vehicle for KYV completion.

NHAI has further directed issuing banks to actively assist customers who face difficulties uploading documents. Banks must contact such users directly to help them complete verification. Additionally, motorists can reach out to the National Highway Helpline (1033) for assistance or to file complaints.

FASTags issued before the KYV policy was introduced will continue to work normally. They will only be flagged if the issuing bank receives complaints of misuse or tag tampering. Users whose KYV is pending will receive SMS alerts from their banks as reminders.

Banks like HDFC and ICICI have clarified the verification rules. HDFC stated that KYV remains valid for three years, after which users must complete re-verification (Re-KYV). ICICI warned that non-compliance could result in the FASTag being hotlisted, preventing toll use until corrected documents are uploaded and approved.

This move follows NHAI’s broader effort to make digital tolling more efficient, with the recent introduction of an annual FASTag pass for ₹3,000, reducing the need for frequent recharges.
