Over 27 injured as ammonium nitrate stored at the station triggers a devastating blast; police constable among victims.
A devastating explosion at the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar on Saturday claimed nine lives and left more than 27 people injured. All injured individuals have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to initial information, the blast was triggered by ammonium nitrate that had been stored inside the station as part of an ongoing investigation.
The explosive material had reportedly been seized earlier from Dr. Muzammil in Faridabad and kept at the station as evidence. Officials said the substance ignited suddenly, causing a powerful explosion.

The impact of the blast was severe enough to set multiple vehicles parked in the premises on fire, leading to extensive damage. Fire and emergency teams rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control.

A police constable, identified as Mohammad Shafi Parry, was among those who lost their lives in the incident. His family members gathered outside the station upon receiving the news, struggling to hold back their grief. The sight of Shafi’s mother breaking down moved many onlookers.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams and the dog squad visited the site and collected samples to determine the exact cause and sequence of the explosion. Officials have cordoned off the area and launched a detailed investigation.
