Bangalore University's invitation to him, he humbly and humorously termed it as 'ironic'

Nikhil underscored the pivotal role played by parents' unwavering support

Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha, recently graced Bangalore University’s annual convocation as the chief guest, an invitation he humbly and humorously termed as ‘ironic’.

Expressing his wry amusement, he mentioned never having attended college himself, jokingly suggesting that he might have taken a wrong turn on the way to a coffee shop.

Despite this light-hearted remark, he emphasized the significance of formal education, highlighting its crucial role as the backbone of society. Commending the university’s recognition of former Prime Minister H D Devegowda and ISRO chief S. Somnath with honorary doctorates, he encouraged a collective effort to further fortify the education system.

Earlier, Nithin Kamath, Nikhil’s brother and Zerodha’s co-founder, shared that both of them were once considered the worst performers in school. Yet, he underscored the pivotal role played by their parents’ unwavering support, especially in the face of learning difficulties.

Nithin’s remarks were made in light of National Dyslexia Awareness Month, urging a broader perspective beyond academic scores.

Founded in 2010 by Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath, Zerodha, a Bengaluru-based stock brokerage firm, has emerged as a bootstrapped startup with a reported valuation of $3.6 billion, boasting the second largest active user base in India. However, it has recently been overtaken in active users by another trading platform known as Groww.
