Nitish attempted to explain the importance of sex education
when the husband has the urge to indulge in sex during winter nights, unplanned births occur: Nitish
BJP legislators blocked his path to the parliament in protest
The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar’s comments pertaining to the Bihar government’s efforts at promoting safe and healthy reproductive practices has earned widespread condemnation. He attempted to explain the importance of sex education to achieve this goal in the state parliament. “If a woman is well read it has positive consequences on reproductive health. After marriage when the husband has the urge to indulge in sex during winter nights, unplanned births occur. If a woman is well read, she anticipates this prospect and tells the husband to not ejaculate inside her. This therefore, reduces the population,” he stated in a clip that soon became the root of controversy.
Nitish Kumar apologised for his comments and offered to retract them after BJP legislators blocked his path to the parliament in protest. “On behalf of every woman in this country, as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, I demand an immediate and unequivocal apology from the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar. His crass remarks in the Vidhan Sabha are an affront to the dignity and respect that every woman deserves. Such derogatory and cheap language used during his speech is a dark stain on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the horror the state must be enduring under his leadership. We stand firm against such behaviour and call for accountability,” Rekha Sharma, Chairperson for the National Commission for Women had earlier expressed on X.
