During inspections, teams visited hotel kitchens to check if plastic sheets were being used while steaming idlis. The use of plastic in food preparation is strictly prohibited due to potential health hazards. Officials have issued notices to violators and imposed fines based on the quantity of plastic found.

The crackdown follows strict government regulations banning plastic in food preparation. With increasing health concerns, the Food Safety Department has intensified inspections, covering hotels across Bengaluru in a zone-wise manner.

Hotels and vendors found using plastic have been warned, with authorities emphasizing that repeated violations will attract higher penalties. Raids are expected to continue in the coming days, with instructions for officials to inspect all eateries, including small street food stalls.

Officials urge hoteliers to switch to authorized, safe alternatives for idli preparation, warning of strict action against non-compliance. The operation aims to ensure hygiene and food safety for Bengaluru residents.
