    Police suspect destruction of evidence

One of the investigative routes being adopted by the police in their investigation of the murder of Renukaswamy is following the money trail. Rs 40 lakh is said to have been given to the Sandalwood actor Darshan also referred to as the Challenging Star by ex-mayor Mohan Raj of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mohan Raj is believed to have been a close aide of Darshan.

Mohan Raj is currently missing and outside the radar of the police. The Call Details Record (CDR) of Mohan Raj placed his last traceable location in Tamil Nadu. The Karnataka Police ventured into Tamil Nadu but it was of no avail. The police are actively monitoring his sim card. If his mobile phone is switched on once again, his location would become traceable.

The reason for transferring the money remains unknown at the moment. Mohan Raj’s statement will become crucial to the Renukaswamy murder case. Destruction of evidence is a crime in itself. The current theory for the flow of cash is that it was used for covering up the crime. It hence follows that the money was borrowed from Mohan Raj for this purpose. If Mohan Raj provided money despite being aware of the crime, he too would have to face legal consequences.
