Rahul Gandhi gets bail in defamation case filed by BJP

Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Bengaluru in light of a defamation case against him. A special court order was issued to him. He arrived during the early hours of 7th June to comply with an enquiry. He will be assisted by the Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. He was welcomed by them at the airport. 

The INC had levelled charges of PayTM Sarkara (government) and 40% Sarkara on the then Basavaraj Bommai led Karnataka government ahead of the 2023 Vidhana Sabha Elections on the back of which they won 136 seats. They have however been charged with a defamation suit in light of these allegations. 

Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have already been granted bail in this issue. Rahul Gandhi iS the 4th accused in the case. He arrived in Bengaluru at 10:30 AM. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Keshav Prasad had approached the court after the allegations were made. Summons were issued to 11 INC leaders.

If Rahul Gandhi is denied bail, he may be jailed. It is expected that he would apologise for skipping the summon on 2 occasions. It is however more likely that he’ll get bail. He may be provided another date for when the hearing will resume.
