    Water overflowed into expressway

The Bengaluru-Mysuru express highway was filled with water as a result of heavy rains on 2nd June. Water in pits overflowed its way into the expressway. This resulted in a traffic jam across 8 kilometres in the expressway. 

Commuters were stuck in the traffic for hours-on-end. Most of the commuters were enroute Bengaluru after having enjoyed their holiday. They faced inconvenience as a result of the traffic jam. The jam was witnessed from the Sangabasavannadoddi region up to Bidadi. The extent of the rain was so high that roads resembled mini ponds.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had promised that after the 2022 mishap, there would be corrective measures which would be taken. However the first instance of heavy rain has resulted in a commotion. The commuters are angry since the toll charge is exorbitant. 

In the interior parts of Bengaluru, the rain resulted in trees being uprooted. This has also caused damages to vehicles occasionally. 206 trees are reported to have fallen across the city. Visuals of autos being crushed under the trees have also surfaced. The dangerous consequences of these occurrences have already been witnessed. Whether the BBMP will take proactive measures in light of these occurrences remains to be seen.
