Ravi rues Bumrah being stereotyped as 'white ball' cricketer

Bumrah debuted against South Africa in 2018

Shastri also called Kohli an 'uncut diamond'

Former Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri has revealed how he made a call to pacer Jasprit Bumrah to make him play in whites.

In an interview with a private sports channel, Shastri said that he had made a call to Bumrah in Kolkata and asked him if he would be interested in playing Tests. To this, the pacer replied that it would be the biggest day of his life.

Shastri also said that Bumrah was stereotyped to be a white-ball cricketer. But, he added that he had asked Bumrah to be ready. Incidentally, the pacer wore the Indian Test cap against South Africa in 2018.

Shastri also did not mince words when he said Tests are the real test a cricketer likes to pass as people remember the ‘Test stats’ and not ‘white ball’s’.

On Virat Kohli

Comparing Virat Kohli to an uncut diamond, Shastri said he saw a lot of potential in Virat Kohli to be elevated to Indian captaincy. Shastri had also hinted to Virat Kohli that he would be assuming the role of captaincy, as he suggested to him to ‘watch, observe, be ready for the captaincy’.
