But it is also learnt that the CM has refused to budge to their demand. Several reasons have been cited in this regard. The chief one being that Renukaswamy is a Veerashaiva Lingayat. If the CM bats in favour of Darshan, he fears backlash from the community. Also, many BJP leaders and seers from the community have made a beeline to his house.

Secondly, sources say that the CM has watched the visuals of the gory attack on Renukaswamy. That being the case, he is fully aware of the seriousness of the issue and the tangible evidence collected that corroborate Darshan’s involvement in the murder.

Keeping all these in mind, he is playing it safe and doesn’t want to send out a wrong message to the society.

Presently Darshan and others are in police custody. They will be produced in a local court where the police may seek a custody extension.

As many as 17 accused have been arrested in the case so far.

Darshan is A2 while Pavitra Gowda is A1 in the case.
