    Karnataka grapples with uptick in heat-related illnesses

    A total of 613 cases reported from March 1 to April 13

    Bagalkot and Chitradurga are the most affected districts

As temperatures soar, Karnataka grapples with a significant uptick in heat-related illnesses, tallying a total of 613 cases from March 1 to April 13. Among these cases, 398 instances of heat rash, 141 cases of heat cramps, and 74 incidents of heat exhaustion have been documented, indicating the severity of the ongoing heatwave.

Emerging as the most affected districts, Bagalkot and Chitradurga have each reported 50 cases, with heat rash comprising 36 and 39 cases respectively. Other heavily impacted areas include Kalaburagi (39), Raichur (38), Yadgir (35), Belagavi (32), and Dakshina Kannada (32). Even the bustling BBMP area has recorded five cases of heat rash, underscoring the widespread nature of the issue.

Reportedly according to expert doctors, heat rash occurs when sweat pores become blocked due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, resulting in reddish, itchy rashes. Doctors have cautioned about the more severe manifestations of heat exposure, such as heat exhaustion, characterized by excessive sweating, nausea, muscle cramps, and dizziness.

They recommend precautionary measures including carrying an umbrella, maintaining hydration, opting for cotton clothing, and avoiding peak sunlight hours between 11 am and 3 pm to mitigate the risk of heat-related ailments.
