Actress Selena Gomez has announced that she is planning on deleting her Instagram account. She had earlier faced backlash over posts pertaining to the Israel-Palestine conflict. “I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific. We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good. I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t. Love, Selena. Having a sister everyday has made me tragically sick, I would do anything for children and innocent lives,” she had expressed through two of her posts.

She faced criticism from supporters of Israel and Palestine as well. While some claimed that her tone seemed more sympathetic towards Palestine. Others pointed to her change from the way she talked about the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “The horrifying and senseless unprovoked attacks on Ukraine continue with more innocent people dying, cities destroyed and families being torn apart for absolutely no reason but one man’s greed. It’s unconscionable to believe this is all really happening to these innocent people. I am making a donation to the UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) unit of the USA (United States of America). If you are able to please consider donating as well. They are already providing necessary medical supplies, blankets and warm winter clothes for children,” her post read back then.
