In his opening remarks, Khan compared Locarno to his native India, saying, “Thank you all for welcoming me with such wide arms – wider than the ones I do on screen. It’s a very beautiful, very cultural, very artistic, and extremely hot city of Locarno. So many people stuffed up in a little square and so hot. It’s just like being home in India.”
Reflecting on creativity, Khan emphasized, “There is no creativity without love, which is a language that transcends all boundaries and is understood by everyone.” He described art as a universal affirmation of life, unbound by politics or intellect.
Khan humorously summed up his career, stating, “I’ve been a villain, a champ, a superhero, a zero, a rejected fan, and a very, very resilient lover,” before joking about the award’s name. Concluding his speech with heartfelt gratitude, he said in Hindi, “Namashkaar and dhanyawaad,” expressing his deep appreciation for the honour.
To celebrate Khan’s illustrious career, the festival screened Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 film Devdas. The actor is set to next appear in Sujoy Ghosh’s The King, featuring his daughter Suhana Khan.
