Among other sports persons who were presented National awards by the President of India Droupadi Murmu in the Rashtrapati Bhavan including shuttlers Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy was India pace bowler Mohammed Shami who was conferred with the Arjuna Award. “Today I am feeling very proud that  I have been honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the President. I want to thank all those people who have helped me a lot to reach here and have always supported me in my ups and downs… thanks to My Coach, BCCI,team mates,my family, staff and big thanks to my fans..Thanks for recognising my hard work..I will always try to give my best to make my country proud…Again thanks to everyone..Congratulations to others arjun award winners,” Mohammad Shami posted on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

The award also includes a cash prize of Rs 25 lakhs. “This award is a dream, life passes and people are not able to win this award. I am happy that I have been nominated for this award…” Shami had earlier stated. 

Shami’s expectation performance in the recently concluded ICC ODI CWC 2023 made him the highest wicket taker in this edition. This was despite the fact that he missed out on the first 4 games India played in the World Cup.
