Bihar’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripted history in Ranchi, smashing the second-fastest List A century by an Indian and eclipsing the buzz around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s return.
Just days after a heartbreaking Asia Cup final setback, Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a remarkable response, announcing his arrival on the biggest domestic stage with a breathtaking performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 14-year-old prodigy, representing Bihar, hammered a sensational 36-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi, producing one of the most explosive innings in Indian domestic cricket.
The opening day of the tournament was expected to be dominated by the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but once the match began, the spotlight firmly shifted to the teenager. After Bihar won the toss and opted to bat, Suryavanshi launched a fearless assault on the Arunachal bowling attack, scoring at a breathtaking pace from the outset.

Displaying rare maturity alongside raw power, the left-hander dismantled the attack with clean hitting and sharp placement. His innings eventually ended at a stunning 190 runs, dismissed by Techi Neri, just 10 runs short of a potential List A double century. He faced 85 balls, striking 16 fours and 15 sixes, in one of the most destructive knocks seen in the competition.
With this effort, Suryavanshi registered the second-fastest List A century by an Indian, trailing only Anmolpreet Singh’s 35-ball hundred for Punjab in 2024, which had also come against Arunachal Pradesh. He also became the youngest player in List A cricket history to score a century, achieving the feat at 14 years and 272 days.

The innings carried additional milestones. Suryavanshi equalled the record for the second-most sixes in a Vijay Hazare Trophy innings, matching Narayan Jagadeesan, who had hit 15 sixes against the same opponent in 2022. He brought up his 150 in just 59 balls, underlining the sheer dominance of his knock.
The teenager’s record-breaking run extends beyond this match. He has now scored centuries in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, IPL, Youth ODIs, Youth Tests, and for India A. Earlier in 2025, he had also made headlines in the Under-19 Asia Cup with a stunning 171 off 95 balls.
