In just two months, Virat Kohli’s explosive run across formats has firmly answered questions over his commitment to the 2027 World Cup, turning scepticism into silence.

Speculation around Virat Kohli’s future peaked after Team India chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently stated that Kohli was “not committed” to playing the 2027 World Cup. The remark, made barely two months ago, triggered debates, retirement rumours, and discussions about sidelining one of India’s biggest match-winners.

Kohli’s response, however, has come not through statements but through runs, and in volume.

Over the last year, the Indian batting icon faced relentless scrutiny. From whispers of forced retirement to strategic sidelining by the BCCI, Kohli remained under the scanner. The situation intensified after domestic cricket participation was made mandatory, a move widely viewed as part of a larger selection strategy. Kohli accepted the challenge head-on.

Returning to domestic cricket after a long gap, Kohli made an immediate impact in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the match against Andhra Pradesh in Bengaluru, he stormed to a century in just 83 balls, finishing with 131 runs off 101 deliveries. That innings also saw him become the fastest batter in List A cricket to reach 16,000 runs.

His form continued in the next fixture against Gujarat at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Kohli smashed a half-century in just 29 balls and ended with 77 runs from 61 deliveries, including 13 boundaries and a six. With this knock, he crossed the 50-run mark for the sixth consecutive time in List A cricket.

Kohli’s resurgence was not limited to domestic cricket. After a challenging start to the Australia series, where he suffered early dismissals in the first two matches, the former India captain rediscovered his rhythm. Across the next six games, he produced a stunning run, three centuries and three half-centuries.

In the Champions Trophy held earlier this year, Kohli finished as India’s highest run-scorer. Despite announcing a sudden retirement from Test cricket during the IPL window, his white-ball form never dipped. Series against South Africa further underlined his dominance, with two centuries and a solid half-century.

Between October 25 and December 26, Kohli played six matches and scored three hundreds and three fifties, a statement run that has effectively shut down doubts around his readiness and hunger for the World Cup stage.

For fans, the message is loud and clear. Virat Kohli’s game is far from over, and his bat has delivered a decisive answer to selectors, critics, and doubters alike.
