BCCI announces India’s squads for Australia ODIs and T20Is: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return

India names fresh leadership for ODIs and T20Is, with Gill captaining the ODI squad and Suryakumar Yadav leading the T20I side. The series runs from October 19 to November 8.

The BCCI has confirmed India’s squads for the upcoming bilateral series against Australia, featuring three ODIs and five T20Is from October 19 to November 8. The ODI series kicks off in Perth on October 19, followed by Adelaide on October 23 and Sydney on October 25. The T20I leg will run from October 29 to November 8 across multiple venues.

In a major development, Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of the ODI side, with Shreyas Iyer serving as his deputy. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have been away from international cricket since the Champions Trophy earlier this year, return to the ODI format. Both had announced retirement from T20Is after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win and confirmed their exit from Tests, making this comeback a significant moment for Indian cricket.

The ODI squad includes: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wk), Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal.

For the T20I series, Suryakumar Yadav will lead with Gill as vice-captain. The squad features: Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar.
