  • Cabinet approves hosting matches again at Chinnaswamy
  • Cunha report’s safety recommendations must be implemented
  • KSCA’s new president Venkatesh Prasad had sought government approval

Chinnaswamy Stadium is set to host matches again as the Karnataka Cabinet gives the green signal based on Cunha Committee recommendations, bringing major relief to fans and officials.

Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will once again host cricket matches, with the Karnataka Cabinet formally approving the resumption of games after a months-long suspension. The state government took this decision based on the Cunha Committee report, which examined safety lapses highlighted during the RCB victory celebration stampede incident on June 4.

At the Cabinet meeting, ministers agreed that matches can be held again, but only after the stadium fully implements the safety measures recommended in the Cunha report. The Cabinet has now authorised the Home Department to finalise the new conditions and issue the official permission.

This development follows a recent meeting where newly-elected KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad, along with his team, visited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar seeking a go-ahead to restart cricket activities in the state. During the meeting, they made a strong appeal that Bengaluru should not lose out on major fixtures.

Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, who had earlier assured that matches would not be shifted out of Chinnaswamy Stadium, reiterated that all games scheduled for Karnataka would indeed be played at the same venue. With the Cabinet’s nod now in place, that assurance has officially turned into action.

Cricket lovers, especially IPL and RCB fans, have welcomed the decision, as the stadium’s future had remained uncertain ever since matches were halted for safety reassessment. With the government now clearing the way, Chinnaswamy Stadium is set for a full-scale return, marking a significant revival for cricket.
