In a dramatic pre-retention shake-up, Chennai Super Kings secure Sanju Samson for ₹18 crore as Rajasthan Royals acquire Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in IPL’s biggest trade of the season.
In one of the most dramatic trade decisions ahead of the IPL retention deadline, Chennai Super Kings have secured Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson in a high-value exchange that has reshaped both squads.
CSK have brought in Samson for ₹18 crore, ending weeks of speculation around his future. The wicketkeeper-batter had reportedly been considering a move since the end of last season, and several franchises had tried to land him. CSK finally sealed the deal, making it one of the costliest pre-retention trades in recent years.

To acquire Samson, CSK released two major players to Rajasthan Royals, Ravindra Jadeja, valued at ₹14 crore, and England all-rounder Sam Curran, traded for ₹2.4 crore. The move is particularly significant because Jadeja has been associated with CSK for 13 years, becoming one of the franchise’s most iconic players.
Both teams announced the trade through coordinated social media posts. Rajasthan Royals welcomed Jadeja with a special video featuring him in the franchise’s pink jersey during a photoshoot. Jadeja recreated his signature sword-celebration pose, giving fans a nostalgic moment with a fresh twist. Sam Curran was also introduced as part of the new lineup.
