  • RCB uncertain to play home games at Chinnaswamy
  • KKR and Rajasthan Royals show interest in the venue

Despite uncertainty around RCB’s home games, KSCA is working closely with the government, police and BCCI to ensure IPL matches are held in Bengaluru, with other franchises showing interest.

Bengaluru is likely to host IPL matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, easing fears among cricket fans that the city could miss out on the tournament this season. Sources indicate that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is making determined efforts to bring IPL games back to the Silicon City.

According to exclusive information accessed by NewsFirst Cricket, KSCA office-bearers have been working round the clock behind the scenes to ensure that IPL matches are conducted in Bengaluru. Officials are in continuous coordination with the state government, police department and other concerned authorities to address all logistical and security concerns. KSCA leaders have expressed confidence that nearly 90 percent of the IPL schedule will be played in Bengaluru.

However, uncertainty continues around Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) playing their home matches at Chinnaswamy this season. After hosting IPL games at the venue for 18 years, the franchise is reportedly considering playing outside Karnataka. This follows a stampede-related incident and the criminal case registered against the RCB franchise, which has reportedly made the team management and players hesitant to play in Bengaluru.

With RCB possibly moving away from Chinnaswamy, other franchises have shown keen interest in using the iconic stadium. Sources say Kolkata Knight Riders (owned by Shah Rukh Khan) and Rajasthan Royals have already reached out to KSCA officials, expressing their willingness to play IPL matches in Bengaluru. KSCA, however, is said to be adopting a wait-and-watch approach before taking a final call.

Ahead of elections, the Gamechangers panel led by Venkatesh Prasad and Vinay Mruthyunjaya had promised to bring major matches back to Chinnaswamy. Staying true to that commitment, the newly elected KSCA leadership has taken a firm stand, stating they will make every possible effort till the very end to host IPL matches, as confirmed to NewsFirst Cricket.

Cricket fans in Karnataka, who are anxious about whether IPL will be held in the city, may soon receive good news. Sources suggest that BCCI has given a positive response to KSCA regarding IPL hosting plans. After missing out on the Women’s Premier League and the T20 World Cup, Chinnaswamy Stadium is now expected to regain prominence by hosting IPL, along with domestic and international matches.
