The ICC has officially removed Bangladesh from the 2026 T20 World Cup after the board failed to respond within a deadline, with Scotland stepping in as the replacement team in Group C.
In a major development ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially confirmed that Bangladesh will no longer be part of the tournament. The decision was announced after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) failed to give an official response within the stipulated deadline set by the ICC.
According to sources, the ICC had given the BCB 24 hours to formally communicate its decision regarding the India tour. When no official response was received within that period, the ICC sent an email to the BCB President on Wednesday evening. However, instead of replying directly to the ICC, the BCB went ahead with a press conference in Dhaka, a move described as a breach of official protocol.

Following this, the ICC confirmed that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the tournament. The world body made it clear that the consequences were a direct result of the Bangladesh board’s rigid stand and failure to follow due process.
Bangladesh was originally placed in Group C of the T20 World Cup. With their exit, Scotland will now take over the same position in the group. The ICC clarified that the tournament schedule remains unchanged, with the only difference being Scotland playing the fixtures originally allotted to Bangladesh.
Scotland will begin its campaign on February 7, facing West Indies at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The team will then play Italy on February 9 and England on February 14, both matches also scheduled in Kolkata. Scotland’s final group-stage match will be against Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai.
The ICC’s announcement formally ends Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 edition and marks a historic opportunity for Scotland on the global stage.
