India defeated top seeds Hong Kong 3-0 in the final at Chennai, becoming the first Asian team to win the mixed team Squash World Cup.
India scripted history by winning the Squash World Cup gold medal for the first time, delivering a dominant 3-0 victory over top seeds Hong Kong in the final held at Express Avenue Mall, Chennai. The landmark win marked India’s best-ever finish in the mixed team tournament and made it the first Asian nation to claim the title.
The final was played in an unusual yet electrifying setting inside a commercial mall, drawing a large and energetic crowd. For veteran squash player Joshna Chinappa, who has been a professional for over 20 years, the atmosphere was unlike anything she had experienced before. The home support added to the significance of the moment as India lifted the trophy.

Together, they surpassed India’s previous bronze-medal finish in 2023 and went a step further than any Indian team in the tournament’s first four editions.

In the final, Joshna Chinappa set the tone, defeating world No.37 Ka Yi Lee in four games, 3–1 (7–3, 2–7, 7–5, 7–1). Abhay Singh, who has enjoyed a strong season on the PSA Tour, followed with a convincing 3–0 (7–1, 7–4, 7–4) win over Alex Lau. Teenager Anahat Singh, just 17 years old, sealed the title with a composed 3–0 (7–2, 7–2, 7–5) victory against Tomato Ho.
The tournament featured 12 teams and was played in a shorter and faster format, demanding consistency and sharp execution. India remained dominant throughout the event and also registered a notable semi-final win over squash powerhouse Egypt, though Egypt competed without their top players.

The triumph is expected to strengthen confidence among younger players like Anahat and Abhay and provide fresh momentum to Indian squash on the global stage.
