India beat West Indies to reach ICC T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals. Strong batting, bowling, and fielding ensured victory as they joined England, NZ, and SA

India stormed into the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a high-octane victory over West Indies in a virtual quarterfinal at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Sunday night. In a winner-takes-all clash, the defending champions delivered a clinical all-round performance to keep their title defence alive.

Batting first before a packed crowd, India’s top order maintained its blistering form, building on their record 256 against Zimbabwe earlier in the Super Eight stage. The openers provided a brisk start, while the middle order capitalised to post a challenging total against a West Indies attack that had impressed throughout the group phase. India’s aggressive intent from the outset reflected their determination to secure the last semi-final spot.

West Indies, despite a strong campaign, faltered in their chase. Known for their power hitting, they struggled to match the steep asking rate. India’s bowlers, under pressure earlier in the tournament, rose to the occasion with disciplined spells in the powerplay and tight middle overs. Sharp fielding and alert catching ensured the Caribbean side never recovered, eventually folding short of the target.

With this victory, India joined England, New Zealand, and South Africa in the semi-finals, sealing the final berth from Group 1. Having bounced back strongly from a heavy defeat to South Africa earlier in the round, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side now carry momentum and confidence into the knockouts as they aim for back-to-back T20 World Cup titles.
