India face a do-or-die chase in Kolkata. West Indies posted 195/4, powered by Holder and Powell’s explosive 76-run stand. India need 196 to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals
Kolkata witnessed high drama in the last Super 8 encounter of the T20 World Cup as West Indies set India a stiff target of 196 runs to secure a semi-final berth. With both teams locked in a virtual quarter-final, the stakes could not be higher: victory ensures progression, defeat means elimination.
India, having won the toss and opted to bowl, kept control for much of the innings. At 125/4 after 15 overs, the West Indies looked contained. However, the final phase turned the game on its head. Jason Holder and Rovman Powell unleashed a fierce counterattack, stitching together an unbeaten 76-run stand off just 35 balls. Their late surge added 70 runs in the last five overs, propelling the Caribbean side to 195/4.

The turning point came in the 16th and 17th overs, where India’s bowlers leaked 40 runs. Holder’s power hitting in the 16th over yielded 26 runs, followed by 14 more in the next. Although Arshdeep Singh managed to restrict the 19th over to six runs, Jasprit Bumrah conceded 15 in the final over, leaving India with a daunting chase.
India’s bowlers had shown discipline until the death overs, but the West Indies’ late flourish shifted momentum decisively. Now, the responsibility lies with India’s batting lineup to deliver under pressure. With 196 runs needed, every wicket and partnership will be crucial. The outcome of this high-stakes clash will determine who advances to the semi-finals and who exits the tournament.
This chase is not just about runs—it’s about resilience, composure, and seizing the moment on cricket’s grand stage.
