The 2026 T20 World Cup prize pool hit a record $13.5m (₹120 cr). Champions India took home $3m (₹27.5 cr), while runner-up New Zealand got $1.6m!!
The 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup concluded with a high-voltage final yesterday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where the Indian national cricket team defeated New Zealand to claim the prestigious championship title. By kissing the trophy once again in front of a packed stadium, India not only secured its status as world champions but also took home a massive share of the tournament's record-breaking prize pool. The conclusion of the tournament marks another major milestone in international cricket, wrapping up weeks of intense competition jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
A record-breaking prize pool
The International Cricket Council (ICC) established a massive prize pool for the 2026 edition, totalling $13.5 million, which translates to over ₹120 crore. This staggering amount represents a 20 percent increase compared to the previous T20 World Cup held in 2024, reflecting the growing commercial power, strong broadcasting deals, and expanding global viewership of the shortest format of the game. The prize money is distributed among all participating teams, rewarding performances at every stage of the 20-nation tournament.
Massive rewards for finalists
As the ultimate champions, India received a life-changing pay out of $3 million, which is approximately ₹27.48 crore. Despite falling short in the final match, the runner-up New Zealand team was handsomely rewarded with $1.6 million, or roughly ₹14.65 crore. This pay out ensures that both finalists walked away with substantial financial recognition for their dominant runs through the competition.
Pay-outs across all stages
The ICC ensured that all teams reaching the latter stages of the tournament were heavily compensated. The two teams that lost in the semi-finals received $790,000 (around ₹7.24 crore) each. Teams that successfully advanced to the Super 8 round but failed to reach the semi-finals were awarded $380,000 (approximately ₹3.48 crore) each.
Furthermore, the governing body made sure that no side left the competition empty-handed. Every team eliminated during the initial group stage received a baseline participation prize of $250,000, which amounts to roughly ₹2.29 crore. This structured distribution ensures that strong performances are financially recognized at every tier, setting a new benchmark for international cricket tournaments.
