  • India’s poor fielding gifted early chances
  • Bumrah’s double strike slowed West Indies
  • Powell-Holder stand lifted total to 195

Repeated fielding errors hurt Team India in a crucial game, but Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell prevents further damage as West Indies recover to post a competitive total.

Team India’s repeated fielding mistakes once again proved expensive in a must-win encounter, allowing West Indies to recover strongly and post a competitive total of 195 for four in their allotted 20 overs. Despite moments of brilliance from Jasprit Bumrah, India’s sloppy performance in the field gave the Caribbean side crucial lifelines.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, West Indies enjoyed early luck. In the initial overs, Varun Chakravarthy missed a crucial run-out opportunity, followed by Abhishek Sharma dropping a simple catch in the fifth over. These two errors gave Roston Chase early reprieves, allowing him to settle at the crease.

Making full use of the second chances, openers Roston Chase and Shai Hope built a steady start. The pair played cautiously during the powerplay, ensuring no wicket loss while adding 45 runs. Their partnership laid a solid platform for a bigger total.

India finally managed a breakthrough in the ninth over when Varun Chakravarthy produced a magical delivery to clean-bowl Shai Hope. This wicket brought some relief to the bowling side after a frustrating start.

Abhishek Sharma, however, had a forgettable outing. Apart from dropping two crucial catches, he also failed with the bat, getting dismissed for just 10 runs. The young batter, known for his aggressive style, faced criticism for his lack of consistency and missed opportunities in a high-pressure match.

The turning point came in the 12th over when Jasprit Bumrah delivered a double strike. He first dismissed the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer, who had smashed 27 runs off just 12 balls with two sixes and a boundary. In the very next breakthrough, Bumrah removed Roston Chase, halting West Indies’ momentum.

Soon after, Sherfane Rutherford, who looked in good touch, departed for 14 runs, caught by Sanju Samson off Hardik Pandya’s bowling. With four wickets down, West Indies appeared under control.

However, the final overs saw a dramatic shift. Rovman Powell and Jason Holder launched a fierce counterattack, especially targeting Arshdeep Singh, whose 16th over went for 24 runs. Powell smashed an unbeaten 34 off just 19 balls, while Holder hammered 37 from 22 deliveries, including three sixes and two boundaries.

The duo added a crucial 76-run partnership for the fifth wicket in just 35 balls, propelling West Indies to a challenging total of 195 at the end of 20 overs.
Despite Bumrah’s heroic spell, India’s repeated fielding lapses proved costly, leaving them with a steep chase in a match they could not afford to lose.
