Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has begun rigorous preparations at the JSCA ground in Ranchi, focusing on fitness, technique, and lighter gear ahead of IPL Season 19.
With IPL Season 19 approaching, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has begun a focused and disciplined training programme, clearly indicating his determination to make the upcoming season count. Training at his home venue, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) ground in Ranchi, Dhoni is pushing himself through a demanding daily routine.
After an underwhelming performance in the previous IPL, Dhoni has adopted a different preparation strategy this time. He has been training consistently since September 2025 and appears to be in solid rhythm and confidence ahead of the new season.
Dhoni trains every afternoon from 12 pm to 3 pm, practising under Ranchi’s intense heat. This schedule is deliberate, aimed at adapting his body to the harsh playing conditions he is likely to face in Chennai during the IPL.

At the JSCA stadium, Dhoni is making extensive use of indoor pitches. The facility includes three different pitches, one black soil pitch and two mixed soil pitches. Dhoni practises on all three, first facing spinners and later taking on pace bowlers, simulating varied match conditions.
Post batting practice, Dhoni spends two continuous hours in the gym. His focus is largely on strength training and muscle building, with special attention to shoulders, forearms, and lower body strength. Officials say Dhoni currently looks fully fit and injury-free.
Fitness sessions continue in the swimming pool, where Dhoni spends over an hour doing full-body pool exercises. These workouts target the upper body, lower body, core strength, cardio endurance, and recovery through cooling-down exercises.

Dhoni has also made a notable equipment change. After using a 1.3 kg bat in recent seasons, he has now shifted to a 1.23 kg customised bat from SS. The lighter bat allows for quicker bat swing, better timing, and improved control, suiting his current playing approach.
With this level of preparation and commitment, fans believe Dhoni is gearing up for a memorable IPL journey, possibly his final one. Cricket lovers will be watching closely as the legend readies himself for one last charge.
