  • IPL Season 19 retention and release list finalised
  • Teams prioritise Indian core over overseas stars
  • RCB drops Mayank Agarwal, Manoj Bhandage and key foreigners

Franchises complete their retention and release strategies for IPL Season 19, with RCB letting go of Mayank Agarwal and Manoj Bhandage alongside key overseas names.

The much-awaited IPL 2026 players release list has been officially announced, marking the end of a crucial phase for all ten franchises ahead of the upcoming mega auction. With teams working through multiple combinations and budget calculations, most owners have prioritised a strong Indian core while releasing several foreign stars.

This season’s retention strategy was notably different, as franchises chose stability and long-term planning over marquee overseas names. Team managements have focused on building balanced squads, ensuring they enter the auction with sizable purses and clear strategies.

Among the key developments, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has made expected yet significant changes to its squad. The franchise has released England’s Liam Livingstone, South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi and New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert. The move aligns with RCB’s plan to rework their overseas combination after an inconsistent season.

However, the biggest headline for Karnataka fans is RCB’s decision to part ways with two local players, Mayank Agarwal and Manoj Bhandage. Agarwal joined RCB as a replacement for Devdutt Padikkal last season, while Bhandage was seen as a promising all-round option. Both have now been released as the team seeks renewed balance and fresh domestic talent.

With the retention chapter closed, all eyes are now on the auction table, where teams will rebuild and reinforce their squads for IPL Season 19.
