With the IPL 2025 player retention deadline fast approaching, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is preparing for major team reshuffles, aiming to build a stronger and more balanced squad for the upcoming season.
The countdown to the IPL 2025 player retention deadline on November 15 has begun, and all ten franchises are in deep discussions to finalise their core squads. Among them, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is making strategic moves behind the scenes to build a well-rounded team ahead of the mini-auction later this year.
After an inconsistent last season, RCB management is assessing every player’s performance, value, and role fit. The franchise has reportedly prepared a list of players to be released, while focusing on retaining impactful performers and maintaining a healthy purse for the auction.

Players likely to be released
Liam Livingstone:
The England all-rounder, bought for ₹8.75 crore, failed to make an impression last season, scoring only 112 runs and taking 2 wickets in 10 matches. His poor performance has left the RCB camp disappointed, making his retention highly unlikely.
Rasikh Salam Dar:
The young all-rounder played only two matches, taking two wickets. Despite receiving ₹6 crore, he spent most of the season on the bench. RCB may move on from him to free up funds.
Yash Dayal:
While the left-arm pacer showed promise on the field, off-field controversies have clouded his future with the franchise. Bought for ₹5 crore, Dayal’s spot in the 2025 lineup appears uncertain.
Nuwan Thushara:
The Sri Lankan pacer, who cost RCB ₹1.6 crore, featured in just one match last season. With an already deep bowling lineup, Thushara is expected to be released.
Lungi Ngidi:
The South African speedster played only four matches last season, taking four wickets for ₹1 crore. The franchise plans to let him go to make way for new talent.
RCB currently has ₹75 lakh remaining in their purse. If the above five players are released, the franchise’s available balance will rise to approximately ₹22.35 crore, providing ample room to secure quality players in the upcoming December mini-auction.
Though the final retention list has not been made public, insiders suggest that RCB has conducted extensive homework to ensure a balanced team composition with strong performers across departments.
As the November 15 retention deadline nears, all eyes are on RCB’s official announcement.
