Young skipper Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s explosive century and calm leadership put India firmly in control of the youth ODI series against South Africa.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has emerged as the central figure of India’s dominance in the ongoing youth ODI series against South Africa, combining aggressive batting with assured captaincy. Opening the innings, the left-hander produced a breathtaking knock at 127, smashing six fours and eight sixes to reach his century in just 63 balls, setting the tone for India’s commanding position with no wickets lost.
Despite losing the toss for the third consecutive time as captain, Suryavanshi accepted the challenge with visible disappointment but no loss of focus. South Africa chose to bowl first, a decision that ultimately played into India’s hands. Suryavanshi and his opening partner Aaron George made full use of the conditions, piling pressure on the visitors with fluent stroke play and controlled aggression.

Suryavanshi’s impact in the series has been decisive. As captain, he has already guided India to an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, showcasing maturity beyond his years. The Indian U-19 side entered the final match with confidence, aiming for a clean 3-0 sweep after staying ahead in both rain-affected games decided by the DLS method.
In the previous match, Suryavanshi turned the chase into a one-sided contest. He tore apart the South African bowling attack with a rapid 68 off just 24 balls, clearing the ropes 10 times as India chased a revised target of 174 in only 23.3 overs. His innings sealed an emphatic eight-wicket win and firmly underlined his authority at the top of the order.
