The planned wedding of India’s star cricketer Smriti Mandhana has been deferred after her father suffered a cardiac emergency, even as unverified social media rumours fuel fresh controversy.
Indian women’s cricket captain and RCB Women’s star batter Smriti Mandhana was set to begin a new chapter of her life on November 23, but the ceremony was unexpectedly postponed after her father suffered a heart attack on the wedding day. The family shifted him to a hospital, leading both sides to defer the celebrations until his recovery.
Prior to the postponement, Mandhana and fiancé Palash Muchhal had completed pre-wedding customs, including the haldi and sangeet events. Visuals from the sangeet showed the usually reserved Mandhana dancing freely with Muchhal on stage, indicating a cheerful build-up to the ceremony.

However, the sudden change in plans has triggered multiple theories online. Adding to the confusion, Mandhana removed engagement and wedding-related photos and videos from her social media accounts, creating room for further speculation. Around the same time, alleged WhatsApp screenshots, claimed to involve Muchhal and another woman, began circulating widely. These unverified messages, which include references to meeting at a hotel pool and questions about his relationship status, intensified social media chatter. There is still no confirmation that these screenshots are authentic.
Meanwhile, Palash Muchhal’s mother, Amita, shared that the groom-to-be was deeply emotional after Mandhana’s father was hospitalised and later had to be admitted himself due to sudden health issues following the haldi event. She stated that he is recovering and both families expect the wedding to take place once the situation stabilises.
Mandhana’s hometown and her extended circle have reacted with concern as the cricketer’s family focuses on her father’s health. With no official statement from either family regarding the viral screenshots, uncertainty remains even as preparations reportedly remain paused, not cancelled.
