Virat Kohli’s classy 131 and a blazing start from Priyansh Arya powered Delhi to a four-wicket win over Andhra in their opening Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Bengaluru.
India’s batting mainstay Virat Kohli marked his return to domestic cricket with a commanding performance as Delhi began their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign with a four-wicket victory over Andhra in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The match was played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, where Delhi successfully chased down a challenging target of 299.
After winning the toss, Delhi opted to bowl first. Andhra capitalised on the opportunity and put up a competitive total of 298 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was anchored by Ricky Bhui, who played a superb knock of 122 off 105 balls. His innings included 11 boundaries and seven sixes and helped Andhra recover after losing early wickets.
Support came from the lower middle order, with Nitish Reddy contributing 23 runs, Maramreddy Hemanth Reddy adding 27, and Singupuram Prasad scoring a quick 28. Their efforts ensured Andhra finished just two runs short of the 300 mark. For Delhi, Simarjeet Singh delivered an outstanding bowling performance, claiming five wickets and breaking key partnerships. Prince Yadav also impressed with three wickets.

In response, Delhi began their chase aggressively. Young opener Priyansh Arya set the tone with a fearless innings of 74 runs off just 44 balls, putting immediate pressure on the Andhra bowling attack and giving Delhi a strong platform.
After Arya’s dismissal, Virat Kohli took charge of the chase. Recently retired from T20 internationals and Test cricket, Kohli showcased his experience and control in the 50-over format. He paced the innings calmly, rotated strike efficiently, and punished loose deliveries. Kohli scored a brilliant 131 off 101 balls, striking 14 fours and three sixes.
Kohli’s masterclass ensured Delhi stayed on course despite brief hiccups, and the team crossed the target to seal a memorable four-wicket win in their opening match of the tournament.
