KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad says serious talks are on to stage the IPL inauguration in Bengaluru, citing champions’ tradition and positive signals from the BCCI and state leadership.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans may soon have a big reason to celebrate. Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) President Venkatesh Prasad has said that efforts are underway to host the upcoming IPL inauguration ceremony in Bengaluru.

Speaking in Mysuru, Prasad revealed that discussions have already taken place with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has responded positively to the proposal. However, he clarified that final approval from the BCCI is still awaited.

Prasad said the idea of hosting the IPL opener in Bengaluru was discussed even before the KSCA elections. He added that after the elections, it has become easier for the association to coordinate with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. According to him, conversations have already taken place, including a phone discussion with the Home Minister.

With the state government currently engaged in the Belagavi session, Prasad said a formal meeting is planned once they return to Bengaluru. He noted that the leadership has shown interest in supporting the move.

Highlighting tradition, Prasad pointed out that the IPL inauguration is usually held at the home ground of the defending champions. As the reigning champions, he said Bengaluru deserves the honour this season.
