Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the victorious Indian women’s cricket team in New Delhi, congratulating them on their historic World Cup triumph as the players presented him a signed ‘Namo 1’ jersey.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Indian women’s cricket team at his residence in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 5, to celebrate their historic Women’s World Cup victory. During the meeting, the World Cup-winning squad presented PM Modi with a special team jersey signed by all players, emblazoned with the name ‘Namo 1’ as a token of gratitude and respect.

Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian team made history last Sunday by clinching their maiden Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final in Navi Mumbai. The triumph ended India’s long wait for a world title in women’s cricket and marked a proud moment for the nation.

PM Modi congratulated the players and expressed pride in their remarkable achievement, calling their success “a defining moment for Indian sports.” The Prime Minister also listened to personal stories from the players about their journey, preparation, and emotional moments during the campaign.

Harmanpreet Kaur recalled how the team had met PM Modi back in 2017 without a trophy and said that returning as world champions this time made it “an unforgettable experience.” Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana thanked PM Modi for his continuous encouragement, saying his words “deeply motivate women athletes to dream bigger.”

All-rounder Deepti Sharma, who was named Player of the Tournament, said she had eagerly awaited the meeting and reminisced about PM Modi’s earlier advice to “stay determined and work hard.” During the interaction, PM Modi also mentioned noticing Deepti’s “Jai Shri Ram” post and Hanuman tattoo, to which she replied that her faith gives her inner strength.

The interaction ended on a personal note when Harmanpreet asked the Prime Minister how he manages to remain grounded amid responsibilities. PM Modi smiled and said, “It’s become my habit to live in the moment, it’s just the way I am.”
