A historic Kumbhabhishekam was held at the Sitamata Temple in Ashoka Vatika, Sri Lanka, marking a significant event in the spiritual and cultural relationship between India and Sri Lanka.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji, the global peace ambassador and humanitarian, who was invited by the Sri Lankan government to perform the sacred ritual. Devotees from India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal participated in this grand event, which also saw the use of holy water from the Sarayu river in Ayodhya.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji’s Gesture of Spiritual Unity

The Sitamata Temple holds great significance as it is believed to be the place where Hanuman first saw Mother Sita. It was at this very spot that Mother Sita found hope in reuniting with Lord Rama. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji, in a gesture of spiritual unity, presented gifts brought from Janakapuri in Nepal, the birthplace of Mother Sita, Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, and Kishkindhe, Karnataka, the birthplace of Hanuman.

 

Values That Mother Sita Embodies

During the ceremony, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji spoke about the importance of the values of compassion, motherhood, and tolerance that Mother Sita embodies. He emphasized the need to revive these values in today’s society, stating that a life lived in harmony, prosperity, and happiness is what utopia truly means. He also expressed his hope that this place would inspire a life free of hardships for women worldwide and a just and prosperous society.

Lifetime Achievement Award

In recognition of his lifelong dedication to world peace and the salvation of humanity, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ambassadors Forum. The award acknowledged his courage and strength in helping the people of Sri Lanka overcome challenging times.

 

12 Craft Development Centers Inaugurated

During his visit, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji inaugurated 12 Craft Development Centers of the Art of Living Institute across Sri Lanka. These centers aim to train 5,000 youths in various trades to make them employable. Additionally, the Art of Living and Sri Lanka’s Department of Technical Education signed an agreement to provide training in self-entrepreneurship and leadership to students and teachers. Furthermore, the Sri Sri Ayurvedic College of Medical Sciences and Research Center entered into a reciprocal agreement with Gampaha Vikramarachi University, the only university in Sri Lanka offering a Yoga degree. This collaboration will focus on research and innovation in the field of Yoga and Ayurveda.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji was warmly welcomed by Sri Lankan Minister of State Premita Bandara Tennakoon at the Bandaranaike International Airport on May 18. He visited Sri Lanka on the friendly invitation of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene.
