In an interview with InsideSports, Badrinath recalled a low-scoring game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chennai’s Chepauk stadium. CSK had failed to chase a modest target of 110, crumbling under pressure. Badrinath, who fell to Anil Kumble’s bowling after attempting a lap shot, vividly remembers Dhoni’s uncharacteristic outburst.
“In this match against RCB in Chennai, we were chasing 110 odd. We lost wickets in a hurry, and we ended up losing the match,” Badrinath said. “I got out to a lap shot against Anil Kumble. He was coming inside the dressing room and I was standing right there, and there was a small water bottle in front of me. MS just kicked it out of the park, and I was like, oh my god!”
Badrinath added that the team, accustomed to Dhoni’s calmness, avoided making eye contact during the incident, underscoring the gravity of the moment.
This rare show of frustration demonstrated that while Dhoni maintained a cool exterior, he was deeply invested in the team’s success and had his own ways of handling disappointment.
